5 bold predictions for the Bills defense in 2020 – Bills Wire

The upcoming Buffalo Bills season is very much about the offense. How will Josh Allen look? Will Stefon Diggs be an impact maker?

But despite all their successes in recent memory, the Bills defense has to earn their stripes year in and year out. A top-three defense won’t just be handed to the team.

It’ll be a long road to get there and potentially an AFC East crown. Let’s make some guesses as to how it could go down.

Here are five bold predictions for the Bills defense in 2020:

Levi Wallace starts multiple games

The No. 2 cornerback job for the Bills is going to go to someone. That training camp battle will be a highlighted one to look for. The seemingly favorite to win the job is Josh Norman. But we’re going to predict something a little different: Incumbent Levi Wallace sees multiple starts in 2020.

Norman was previously at an All-Pro level with Buffalo’s head coach Sean McDermott when he was the Panthers defensive coordinator. But Wallace wasn’t so bad himself just last season. He defended nine passes and notched his first two career interceptions. And while Pro Football Focus isn’t the end all be all, he was the 41st ranked corner in the entire NFL last year. That’s pretty good for a 32-team league.

Now, does that mean he’ll beat out Norman? Maybe not. But for various reasons, Wallace could, at minimum, make multiple starts. At 32, has Norman lost a step? It was a different defense he was playing in with the Redskins in recent seasons, but Norman was benched multiple times during his stay in Washington. In addition, there’s health to consider. Norman’s been relatively healthy in his career and we’re not ever wishing for injury, but age comes into play there, too.
